Biography
Nancy formally joined Gonser Gerber in February of 2024 as our first Managing Consultant to provide consulting services and assist the firm with operations. However, Nancy has actually been part of the Gonser Gerber family since 1969 when her father, Charles H. Kayton, joined the firm. Chuck was with the firm for almost 40 years. By the time Nancy was in high school she was curious enough about what her father did for a living to start attending Gonser Gerber’s Annual Conferences. Many conferences later, and after more than 35 years in advancement, Nancy feels very fortunate to have turned a childhood curiously into a very fulfilling career.
Advancement and Executive Experience:
Prior to consulting, Nancy served as the Vice President of Institutional Advancement for Saint Joseph Hospital in Elgin, IL for ten years. During her tenure, she established the hospital’s foundation, shepherded the new Foundation Board of Directors, and expanded her administrative responsibilities to include Cancer Care, Marketing & Public Relations, Community Education & Wellness, Occupational & Employee Health, Food & Nutrition, Strategic Planning, Volunteers & Auxiliary, and Home Health & Hospice. In addition to providing strategic leadership for departments outside of advancement, Nancy successfully guided the young foundation through their first campaigns and worked with skilled volunteers to create their major gifts and planned giving programs.
Prior to her role at Saint Joseph Hospital, and thanks to her Gonser Gerber training, Nancy’s first job out of college was Director of Development at Silver Cross Hospital Foundation in Joliet, IL. In her three years there, Nancy successfully guided the young hospital foundation through their first campaigns and worked with a strong volunteer team to put in place the structured needed to identify, cultivate, and solicit major donors.

Personal
Nancy resides in Geneva, Illinois with her husband, Jim, along with their two children, Katie and AJ. In addition to her work with Gonser Gerber, Nancy manages the Iowa properties of her family’s agriculture business. She oversees the management of the cattle herd; corn and soybean operations; as well as numerous conservation practices.
