Gonser Gerber LLP, consultants in institutional advancement, has announced the appointment of Charlie Shepard as a Senior Consultant with the firm. As a member of the Gonser Gerber team, Shepard will provide individualized counsel to educational, healthcare, religious, social service and other non-profit organizations. His specialty includes developing and strengthening Governing Boards, Foundation Boards, annual, capital, major and planned gift programs, campaign planning and execution, performance metrics, volunteer engagement, strategic planning, public relations, advancement team building, integrated marketing and other aspects of institutional advancement.
Charlie joins the firm after a 16 year career in non-profit and advancement leadership. Most recently, Charlie served as Vice President for Institutional Advancement at Asbury University in Kentucky, where he led a successful advancement program and was responsible for launching the University’s most ambitious comprehensive campaign, a $62M endeavor that raised $50.3M in the first three years. During this time, he and his team witnessed nearly a 50% increase in membership in the President’s Leadership Giving Society ($1,000+ annually); closed a record 13 gifts of $1M+, and engaged 50+ volunteers in the campaign effort.
Before Asbury University, Charlie served in various roles of increasing responsibility at The University of Findlay in Ohio. As Associate Vice President for Development and Campaign Director, he led a team of professionals that planned and publicly launched a comprehensive campaign that raised $50M, exceeding its goal of $40M. He also held roles as Director of Development, Major Gift Officer, Co-Director of Alumni Relations and Coordinator of Prospect Research.

Shepard earned his M.A. from The University of Findlay and his B.A. from Asbury University. He is also a graduate of Harvard University’s Management Development Program.
