An effective and comprehensive advancement program depends on gifts officers who can cultivate, solicit and steward prospects. Good major gift work merges the art of relationships with the science of understanding the donor base and working with the right prospects at the right times to encourage major gifts. The best gift officers combine strong relationship skills with the practice of listening, being prepared, understanding donors, and timing.
