On Demand Program
Development leaders can find it difficult helping colleagues understand the importance and value of development. Our work can be nuanced, and the “art and science” of securing philanthropic resources is often difficult to grasp for those not working daily in the field. Others may view development simply as an organizational expense as opposed to an investment. As development leaders, though, we understand that our work entails a diverse set of engagement strategies for a variety of constituencies, and some of these strategies are not designed, in and of themselves, to have an immediate financial return.
Helping our colleagues better understand the value of our work is essential. Assuring them that some of our programs and initiatives, while not providing an immediate financial return, are necessary for enhancing the likelihood of significant future philanthropic revenue is a key part of shaping their understanding.
In this On Demand Gonser Gerber Institute Webinar, we will review the ways you can communicate with colleagues across your organization to enhance their understanding and value of the development enterprise. Our aim is to provide a clear, concise, and compelling rationale regarding development work and why it is wise for organizations to view development as an investment.
Topics we will cover include:
- Relationship Building Takes Time and Effort
- There Are No Formulas
- Asking for Money Isn’t the Real Work
- Technology Can Help but Can’t Replace
- Focus on Lifetime Giving Value
